🚢🌍Delivering a World First: WinGD Ltd. Achieves Type Approval and Factory Acceptance for Ammonia Two-Stroke Engine
WinGD Ltd. has successfully completed the world’s first Type Approval Testing (TAT) and Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) for an ammonia-fuelled two-stroke marine engine, marking a major step towards zero-carbon shipping.
🛠️Testing of the X52DF-A-1.0 engine was carried out last month at the HD Hyundai Heavy Industries' Engine & Machinery Division (HHI-EMD) facility in South Korea. The programme was witnessed by Lloyd's Register, alongside representatives from all major classification societies, under the supervision of Exmar.
As global decarbonisation efforts accelerate, developing propulsion solutions that combine safety, reliability and operational efficiency has never been more important. This milestone demonstrates that ammonia-fuelled two-stroke technology can meet the highest industry standards for performance and safety in commercial marine applications.
The achievement represents another important step in WinGD’s commitment to delivering practical, scalable solutions that support customers on their decarbonisation journey.
